I’m Antonio Cangiano and I work for IBM at the Toronto Software Lab, as a Software Engineer and Technical Evangelist. It should appear obvious to anyone but big companies believe it is better to be very explicit about this; so I must inform you that this is a personal blog, entirely independent from IBM, I pay for the hosting of my server, and the postings on this site are my own and don’t necessarily represent my employer positions, strategies or opinions.
In case you are wondering, I’m Italian and I was born and raised in Italy. I’ve spent two year and a half in Ireland, but I currently live in Markham, in the Greater Toronto Area with my beautiful Canuck wife. The “Zen” in the title of this blog should be intended philosophically and not religiously, as I’m a happy rationalist atheist.
I’m very passionate about programming languages, algorithms and development in general, and I’ve a soft spot for mathematics as well. I’m an expert Ruby programmer, and I strongly like Python as well. However, I never stop looking at interesting developments in other programming languages (e.g. Haskell, Erlang, Scala, etc…). My favorite web frameworks are Ruby on Rails and Django, but I’m not religious about it. Use the right tool for the right job, and whatever makes you happy in the end.
I’ve recently purchased a MacBook Pro and really like Mac OS X. That said, I still love Ubuntu GNU/Linux a lot and use it regularly both for work and at home.
